Private Preschool- Amy Burrell

Week 10 Step 7 - Design the Formative Evaluation of Technology Plan
1. How do your proposed strategies (Week 8 Step 6) meet the required standards as your Week 6 Step 4 stated?
The strategies proposed in Week 8 are congruent with the standards established during Week 6. Strategies were designed based on those standards so that the technology plan will meet the objectives determined and developed during the needs assessment. Each part of development was done using ideas, information, and strategies required by the technology plan to benefit student learning and educator’s professional development.

2. Review the reading materials in Technology domain to propose using other standards which are not adopted by your studied school. Explain why those new standards should be considered for your studied school.
After reviewing the technology domains from the technology facilitation standards there is one area that World of Wonder needs to investigate, develop, and employ within the technology plan before its implementation:

TF-III Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum

Facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards. Candidates:
1. use methods and strategies for teaching concepts and skills that support integration of technology productivity tools (refer to NETS for Students).
2. use and apply major research findings and trends related to the use of technology in education to support integration throughout the curriculum.
3. use methods and strategies for teaching concepts and skills that support integration of research tools (refer to NETS for Students).
4. use methods and strategies for teaching concepts and skills that support integration of problem solving/decision-making tools (refer to NETS for Students).
5. use methods and strategies for teaching concepts and skills that support use of media-based tools such as television, audio, print materials, and graphics.
6. use and describe methods and strategies for teaching concepts and skills that support use of distance learning systems appropriate in a school environment.
7. use methods for teaching concepts and skills that support use of Web-based and non-Web-based authoring tools in a school environment.

All of these standards are necessary for the technology plan to benefit student learning and success but specifically standards two and seven need to be addressed.
Management:  The technology specialist needs to research and use current technology trends when applying technology applications and tools to curriculum and instruction.
Technology:  Many preschool students are already using ipads, laptops, and smartphones regularly with parents at home these same instrument applications can usually be acquired via the internet for PC use and should be incorporated to remain consistent with what students are already familiar with. Although preschool students are too young to use authoring tools simple games and applications can be utilized to introduce web-based and non-web-based publishing tools to students before they enter elementary school. PowerPoint and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are user friendly enough that students can begin learning about creating and publishing their work.

Amy,

What areas do you see need to be addressed for the technology needs of the pre-school children? Is there specific applications that are written for pre-school children? I know for middle school students we are looking at digital media, keyboarding, and communication. Is the needs for this younger age group more toward the use of computers, websites, and programs for learning such as colors, alphabet, and counting.

There are specific TEKS requirements for preschool but I have been unable to access them online. I have contacte TEA requesting those requirements but have not received them yet. My plan is based on the benefits to preschool students learning using technology primarily fine motor development, cognitive development, and beginning literacy. My plan is to introduce using computers in everyday life for learning and entertainment while enhancing using computers, web applications, and skill builder games. Our students already know colors, shapes, the alphabet and counting to 50 by the time they will begin using computers but I believe beginning math and literacy can be greatly enhanced using technology as an alternative learning tool to traditional classroom methods. Thank you for responding to my blog I was worried no one would and now see that I should have been more thorough in my response to this weeks discussion :)

Amy,
I am also concerned about pre-school students. What do you think pre-school students need to master at their grade level? What type of technology would be beneficial for their age? My school has been working harder to help 3-5 graders with technology than primary level. They are the last students to get computers in their classrooms and pre-school teachers lack of technology skills because they do not have the resources or they have not been trained. I am trying to propose resources, but I do not have experience with pre-school students. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks
